A Vantage Point

A Vantage Point
A printed circuit board fabricated by makers of OpenGeometry.

I was a fresh graduate 8 years back, having just completed college, and I had doubts about life. Little did I know back then that everyone had doubts.

Three of my close friends and I wanted to challenge the world, and we didn't go the traditional route. We didn't look for jobs and instead chose to start building something of our own.

We had zero knowledge of the business; we didn't have any idea what we would work on. The very next day, we started listing down ideas and were brainstorming.

Over the next few months, we started building custom software for local businesses. Looking back, it wasn't the best decision, but today, when I am working on building OpenGeometry, it reminds me that we were strangely persistent.

We were strong-headed, full of zest, and although we were small, we didn't stop exploring new things. We were on our toes the entire time for new challenges. We built systems to automate factories, we built electronic devices, and we even fabricated our own printed circuit boards. Let me tell you, none of us was an electrical engineer!

Eventually, we had to stop the custom software business. I can call it a business, as we were making money, but not enough to support it for life. Back then, we didn't know what a pivot was.

Today, as we work on OpenGeometry, we rarely think about those days, but those days taught us something.

The way to make progress is to keep a vantage point, just that!
You don't need a fancy mission, vision, and goals in your life. Just a vantage point.

A simple vantage point can give you so much clarity, 6 months back, we set our vantage point.

Let anyone create floorplans on web using Openplans and powered by OpenGeometry

That one line replaced our mission, vision, and goals, everything product managers like to package in fancy language.

When we made our goal simple, we did everything that was needed to make it happen. And with that, let me announce to you the first set of examples made with OpenPlans and OpenGeometry.
The examples are really rudimentary, but we have a strong core.

And I hope now you might understand why we were silent on the blog for the last few months. It will be different now, we have a product that is working.

The roadmap involves creating PDF exports, followed by the DXF export, and eventually letting users create entire CAD models using OpenGeometry.

That is a huge challenge when compared to the resources that a large organisation has. We are just two crazy guys working on this. But trust us, it becomes easy when you have defined your vantage point!

So, try out the OpenPlans example below and reach out to us on LinkedIn. We are a DM away for your queries. We want to change the industry and make our dent, and you can be a part of it.
